Yuanlin Zen Temple is one of the spiritual centers for the people of Yuanlin. As a returning mentor in this year’s competition, I led the students on a meaningful journey to explore Yuanlin Zen Temple and other local temples frequently visited by residents, using the competition as an opportunity for firsthand cultural discovery.
Through their participation in this thematic research, we hope the students not only gain new knowledge, but also develop a deeper understanding of the goodness and beauty of their hometown. More importantly, we wish for them to uncover the intangible yet invaluable treasures of the heart—such as the power of faith, the importance of cultural heritage, and the emotional connection to their community.
This experience goes far beyond a competition; it is a journey of self-discovery and cultural reflection. We believe that the seeds planted through this meaningful process will blossom throughout different stages of their lives, becoming a lasting source of strength and inspiration.
We were able to successfully complete our visits to Yuanlin Zen Temple, Funing Temple, and Xingxian Academy thanks to the help and support of many individuals. From planning the itinerary and coordinating with the venues, to providing guided tours and insightful explanations on-site, every part of the process was made possible through the dedication and efforts of those involved. It is with their support—both seen and unseen—that we were able to carry out this meaningful journey smoothly, gaining valuable insights and creating lasting memories.
