Xingxian Academy was the earliest educational institution in the Yuanlin area. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has served as a cradle of learning for aspiring scholars, promoting education and elevating the local cultural standard. With Qiu Hai’s founding of a private school and donation of farmland for student support, the academy embodied the spirit of “honoring education and cultivating talent.”
Xingxian Academy is located in the park; it’s a great place for leisure.

It also served as a cultural hub. During the Japanese colonial period, the Xingxian Poetry Society gathered literati to compose poetry and exchange ideas, helping to shape the region’s literary tradition. The annual Wenchang festivals and blessing ceremonies instilled a strong belief in education and reverence for deities, creating a shared cultural memory for the community.

Today, beyond its religious role, the academy functions as a center for community arts and education. It regularly hosts calligraphy exhibitions, classical Chinese lectures, and serves as a study space for students, transforming the historic site into a living cultural space. Xingxian Academy continues to play a vital role in nurturing local education and cultural identity.
